FAQs
Find answers to common questions about Beau, booking as a client, and joining as a makeup artist.
General
What is Beau?
Beau is a platform that connects clients with makeup artists in their area. Clients can search by location, style, and availability, browse artist profiles and portfolios, and book directly through the platform.
Is Beau free to use?
Yes, Beau is free to join for both clients and makeup artists. In the future, Beau will charge a small booking fee for services booked through the platform.
How does search work?
When a client searches for a makeup artist, Beau checks each artist's calendar to make sure they have enough availability before your ready-by time. This ensures the artist in results can realistically take the appointment.
Does Beau handle payment?
Not yet. Payment for services is currently handled directly between clients and artists using their preferred method (e.g. Zelle, Venmo, cash). We're actively working on adding payment processing to the platform.
For Clients
How do I find and book a makeup artist?
Search by location, service type, and the time you need to be ready by. Browse matching artist profiles, view their portfolios and pricing, and send a booking request directly through Beau. Once the artist sends you a quote, you can accept it to move the booking forward.
What types of events can I book a makeup artist for?
Beau artists are available for weddings, engagement shoots, photoshoots, proms, galas, film and TV productions, editorial work, and everyday occasions. When you submit your booking request, include details about your event so your artist can come prepared.
How does the quoting and confirmation process work?
After you submit a booking request, your artist will send you a quote. Once you review and accept the quote, the booking moves to a Confirmed status and appears in your Upcoming tab.
How do I message my artist?
You can message your artist directly through the Beau platform. Use this to share inspiration photos, discuss your look, ask questions, or coordinate logistics before your appointment.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancellation policies are set by each individual artist and are displayed on their profile before you book. Because Beau does not currently process payments, any cancellation fees are handled directly between you and the artist.
What if I'm unhappy with my service?
Start by messaging your artist directly through Beau to work things out. If you need additional support, you can reach us at contact@thebeauapp.com.
For Makeup Artists
How do I join Beau as a makeup artist?
Click the "Sign up" button in the upper right corner of the site. You'll be guided through a series of steps to create your profile, set your services and pricing, and connect your calendar.
How are makeup artists vetted?
We currently review all artist applications manually, including a review of your Instagram and portfolio.
Can I set my own rates?
Yes, completely. You control your pricing for every service you offer, including travel fees, group rates, and add-ons.
How does my calendar and availability work?
You manage your availability directly in Beau. Mark the dates and times you're available, block off time you're not, and sync your Google Calendar to avoid double-booking. Your calendar works in conjunction with client search. You'll only appear in results when you have enough availability to take the appointment.
Can clients see my calendar?
No. Your calendar is only visible to you. Clients see your availability reflected in search results, but they cannot view your calendar details.
How do I confirm a booking?
Once a client has accepted your quote, the booking will move to a Confirmed status and move to your Upcoming tab.
How do late fees and cancellations work?
Your late and cancellation policies are displayed on your profile so clients are informed before booking. Because Beau does not currently handle payment, enforcing these fees is managed directly between you and the client.
